TV News Roundup for Week 13 of 2019
Welcome to the weekly TV news round-up, where we go into the latest TV news regarding renewals, cancellations, and pick-ups. This week we have Apple’s presentation of Apple TV+, renewals and of course a bunch of trailers.
Renewed
US streaming service Hulu has renewed Marvel’s Runaways for a third season of 10 episodes. This news does not come as much of a surprise, as with Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox assets they became majority owner of Hulu and the service just picked up a host of animated Marvel series. Actor James Marsters also let the renewal slip at the Lexington Comic & Toy Con last weekend.
American broadcast network Fox (not owned by Disney) has renewed two series. The first is medical drama The Resident, starring Emily VanCamp (Revenge, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), which gets a third season. The other is Ryan Murphy’s (American Horror Story) emergency responders drama 9-1-1, starring Jennifer Love Hewitt (Sister Act II: Back in the Habit), which also gets a third season.
Netflix has renewed fantasy series about secret magical orders and wwerewolves The Order for a second season.
American broadcast network NBC has renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a 21st season! The procedural legal and crime drama passes by its parent series Law & Order, which “only” lasted 20 seasons, to become one of the longest running live-action drama series ever.
Cancelled
US premium cable and satellite network Epix has cancelled its spy drama Berlin Station. For 29 episodes over three seasons, the series followed the CIA station in the German capital city Berlin and starred Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Leland Orser (Taken) and Michelle Forbes (True Blood).

US streaming service DC Universe has released the first picture of Brec Bassinger (School of Rock) as high school student and Justice Society member Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl in upcoming TV series Stargirl. With the image also comes the news the series has been pushed back to 2020. Originally Stargirl was set to premiere in late August after Swamp Thing finished its first season, which will premiere on the service Friday, May 31. What is going to fill the gap left by Stargirl has also been confirmed, as Titans Season 2 will fill it.

Deadline knows that cable channel Paramount Network (formerly Spike) has gained the rights to develop a TV series based on Candance Bushnell’s novel Is There Still Sex in the City?, a sequel to her 1997 book Sex and the City. It would be the third Sex and the City TV series, next to HBO’s Sex and the City and its The CW prequel The Carrie Diaries.
Trailers
The CW’s sci-fi series The 100 has released a trailer for their sixth season, which will premiere Tuesday, April 30.
HBO has released a trailer for its miniseries Chernobyl, chronicling the infamous events that started in the Ukrainian town’s nuclear reactor on 26 April 1986. The first episode premieres on Monday, May 6.
HBO also released a short teaser for the Zendaya Coleman (The Greatest Showman) starring series Euphoria.
American cable channel AMC has rereleased a trailer for the second and final season of Pierce Brosnan (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) western drama The Son. Season 2 starts on Wednesday, April 24.
Netflix released a trailer for its Dutch-Belgian crime Original Series Undercover, a co-production with Flemish public broadcaster VRT, which will be released on Friday, May 3.
More international Netflix, as a trailer for the second season of Turkish fantasy Original Series The Protector was also released. The new season is released on Friday, April 26.
