Halloween Countdown 2018 – Day 17 Exorcist II The Heretic (1977)
Greetings my Movie Ghouls!
What a week I’ve been having. First sickness, then the wife goes away with work, and then I’ve had three bad films in a row. Tonight I watched Exorcist II: The Heretic.
A sequel to the classic The Exorcist it follows Linda Blair’s Regan as she tries to live a normal life. She is monitored and claims she has no recollection of her time under Pazuzu.
Exorcist II: The Heretic
The story involves the backstory of how Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow’s character from the first) knew of Pazuzu. He had encountered the same entity before and cast it out of a young African boy.
They give a backstory of why Regan was chosen, that she is a healer. The flashbacks are interwoven with the main story and it culminates in a final showdown with Pazuzu and a swarm of locusts.
Despite saying I didn’t like it, I can see what they were trying to do. It may have been better if they had a standalone Father Merrin prequel and then followed on with Regan’s story.
But that’s just me thinking. There were a few good scenes like the building top stunt, and the mind syncing scene. This scene showed Father Merrin’s death at the hands of Pazuzu-Regan but blends it with the psychiatrist examining Regan.
I am hoping I get a good film next. If I don’t, I may go on a rampage.
Bloodlust Rising. Rising. Rising.
