Some “New Gods” Are Coming Your Way
2017’s Justice League went through some big changes before its screen debut (some even bigger than Cavil’s studly stache.) One of the biggest rumored changes was making Steppenwolf the primary and singular villain of the piece. Originally, however, Steppenwolf was merely a precursor to Darkseid.
Darkseid has long been one of DC’s most powerful villains. It seems that Synder and crew were setting him up to be the Thanos of the DCEU. Which is rather fitting in that Marvel used Darkseid as “inspiration” when they created Thanos. While the DCEU is going through some much needed restructuring, the idea of Darkseid as a big bad seems to be sticking around.
Eisner Award-Winning comic book writer Tom King has been hired to help write the script for a New Gods movie. New Gods was a comic created by comic legend Jak Kirby in the early 70’s.
The tale of two warring planets New Genesis and Apokolips , New Gods was never intended to be a long running series. However, good sales and popular demand forced Kirby to keep going. It has since become one of the more important comics in the DC mythology. Tom King, who has written for numerous DC titles, will pen the script with filmmaker Ava DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time) who is slated to direct.
