Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Greetings my Movie Geeks

So almost three years after Justice League was released, we are officially getting Zack Snyder’s Justice League courtesy of HBO Max in 2021.

For me this is a brilliant thing. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the Cinematic release of Justice League. It did, to a fashion, end the first big storyline that the DC EU started with Man of Steel. It’s almost been 3 years since Zack Snyder announced he was stepping away from production of Justice League for personal reasons. The reins were handed over to Joss Whedon who had had success bringing another Comic Book superhero team together in Avengers Assemble.

But Whedon’s Justice League, which was still credited as Zack Snyder’s did not exactly raise the bar for superhero movies. With the majority of that film being shot during rushed reshoots, it felt as though it was a superhero film from the 90’s. Bland looking scenes, forced humour and an extremely dodgy CGI’d moustache all amounted to a film that seemed disjointed and bland. It also clocked in at under 2 hours inclusive of credits. Something seemed missing.

It turned out there could be a whole lot of footage missing. Rumblings began that there was another cut, one that had more footage, one that had more threat and one that had Darkseid! Also no Henry Cavill moustache.

Man of Steel Watch party

On May 20th Zack Snyder held his second watch party on the social media platform Vero. He had previously held a watch party for Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. This time it was Man of Steel. The watch party was entertaining as he talked through his story boards. He gave us some insight, including the popular fan theory that Aquaman did not save Superman after the oil rig burnt down. But then Deborah Snyder turned up and stayed until the end.

Then they were joined by Superman himself Henry Cavill, who was ironically sporting a moustache. But then there were fans from round the world brought in via Zoom to be able to ask some questions. They spoke about the film, and then one fan asked about the elusive Snyder Cut.

They discussed it, skirting round the issue for a few minutes until Cavill bluntly said:

“Just show it”

Snyder responded that he was not in charge, and that he could not just show it. But then he said:

“I have this”

The Justice League poster with the words Zack Snyder’s Justice League only on HBO Max and the year 2021.

So there you have it. The Snyder Cut, as it was dubbed does exist. We will see it in 2021.

All in the Detail

Snyder spoke to the Hollywood Reporter and has stated:

“It will be an entirely new thing, and especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie.” Adding “You probably saw one-fourth of what I did”

What can we expect? As of now, not too much, but the way Snyder has been peppering images from his Justice League on Vero over the last year or so, it’s safe to say there will be a lot of the film we haven’t seen.

Are you looking forward to the Snyder Cut? Did Joss Whedon’s Justice League let you down? Do you think the Snyder Cut can live up to the hype? Let us know in the comments below.
