Preview US broadcasting season 2018-2019: Fox

It’s September, which means that in the US the new TV broadcasting season is about to kick off. The nights are getting darker and broadcasters will make sure they have something to entertain you. Here’s a list of all returning and new series coming your way (eventually, if you aren’t in the US) from Fox. For the sake of streamlining this already long list we will not include reality programming, only scripted drama.

RENEWED

Returning this season to Fox are these series…

The Simpsons: The animated comedy starring the titular family by Matt Groening hits yet another landmark with Season 30! They return Sunday 30 September.

– Family Guy: Fox’s other animated comedy family the Griffins, created by Seth MacFarlane, also return. Season 17 also starts Sunday 30 September.

– Bob’s Burgers: And then there is Fox’s third animated comedy family, the Belchers. The hamburger restaurant running family return with Season 9 also on Sunday 30 September.

9-1-1: Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear’s procedural drama following the police, firemen, paramedics, and dispatchers in other words first responders of Los Angeles returns for Season 2 on Sunday 23 September. Jennifer Love Hewitt (The Tuxedo, The Ghost Whisperer) joins.

Empire: The hip hop musical drama following Empire Entertainment and the family behind it returns for Season 5. Brett Mahoney (Code Black, The Following) takes over showrunner duties from Ilene Chaiken (The L Word) this season. The series returns on Wednesday 26 September.

Gotham: The Batman prequel DC series returns for a fifth and final season. It’s highly likely that Season 5 will be an adaption of sorts of 1999 Batman comic event No Man’s Land. In it Gotham City gets cut off and left to fend for itself after a cataclysmic earthquake. No word yet on when Season 5 will air, but it will probably be mid-season in 2019.

Lethal Weapon: There were a lot of behind-the-scenes problems for this TV adaption of the movies of the same name. So much even that it was for a moment even in doubt if the series would return. Everything worked out, though, but with a new co-lead. Seann William Scott (American Pie, Welcome to the Jungle) joins the series for Season 3, starting Tuesday 25 September.

Star: Fox’s other musical drama about a girl singing group also returns. It’s set in the same universe as Empire, with which it had a crossover last season. It starts on Wednesday 26 September.

The Gifted: The X-Men TV series from Marvel Television and Fox returns for a second season after a successful first one. The Von Stru… pardon, Strucker family (Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percy Hynes White) and mutants Blink (Jamie Chung), Polaris (Emma Dumont), Eclipse (Sean Teale), Thunderbird (Blair Redford), and the Stepford Cuckoos (Skyler Samuels) all return. Season 2 will consist of 16 episodes, an increase of three episodes over Season 1, and starts Tuesday 25 September.

The Orville: The Star Trek homage series from Seth McFarlane (Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey) returns! The crew of the U.S.S. Orville is back with more adventures in space on Sunday 30 December.

The Resident: The medical drama following the staff of the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital returns for a second season on Monday 24 September.

Federal agent Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved By the Bell, Pitch) needs to keep her safe. No airdate is known yet, but mid-season in 2019 is probable.

Proven Innocent: Legal drama in which a legal team led by Rachelle Lefevre (Under the Dome) fights for people wrongly committed. This one is also expected for mid-season.

The Cool Kids: Old folks comedy from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Charlie Day. It starts Friday 28 September.

Last Man Standing: Cancelled by ABC, but now revived by Fox (who own the series) for Season 7! Tim Allen (Home Improvement, The Santa Clause) is back as the only man in his family on Friday 28 September.
