Danny Boyle Leaves James Bond 25

News broke this evening that James Bond 25 has lost its director. Earlier this year, Danny Boyle was announced as director of Bond 25 but has now walked from Sony and MGM.

Boyle was co-writing the script with John Hodge, who worked with Boyle on films since Shallow Grave. Sony and MGM allowed Boyle to write the 25th film in the beloved British franchise, despite a script already existing.

Twitter Statement

But a statement released on Twitter states that after a meeting between Boyle, Michael G Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, and Daniel Craig, Boyle would not direct the movie.

The statement is short and sweet but lists all the names that have the most power within the franchise. As it is Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond, he may have an influence on the final script.

Citing ‘creative differences’ clearly shows that Boyle’s script wasn’t what was wanted by the Brocolli’s, MGM and Sony. But if they do have a script ready and waiting, all they need is a director to sign on.

As Bond 25 was reportedly to start shooting on 8th December 2018 and have a 25th October 2019 release. If a script exists, and production is on schedule, it could happen. but it would be unlikely to keep to that schedule without a director.

A casting announcement was recently sent out looking for several characters for Bond 25, suggesting some of the pre-production has been done.

Maybe now James Gunn is free of Disney, he could bring his directing skills over to James Bond 25.

What do you think about this turn of events?

Will they be able to pick up Bond 25 where Danny Boyle left off?
